oversized isn’t a trend anymore, it’s a cut. since 2018, the silhouette in streetwear has shifted: shoulders dropped, sleeves lengthened, body widened. what started as a reaction against slim fit is now the default.
what oversized actually means
there’s no standard. every brand defines oversized differently. for one it’s one size up from regular, for another it’s ten extra centimeters in the chest and a completely different pattern. that’s why the size chart matters more than the word “oversized” on the product page.
at ATAVIST, oversized means:
- dropped shoulder — the shoulder seam sits below your actual shoulder joint
- boxy fit — the body is cut straight, no tapering at the waist
- longer cut — about 5–7 cm longer than a regular-fit hoodie in the same size
if you want it closer to the body, size down. the measurements on our product pages are taken flat, not on body.
how to find the right size
1. measure something you already own. lay your favorite hoodie flat and measure chest (armpit to armpit), length (highest point of shoulder to hem), and sleeve length (shoulder seam to cuff edge). compare those numbers to our size chart.
2. consider the material. a pre-washed hoodie like the #001 (440 gsm, pre-shrunk) won’t shrink further. what you measure is what you get. an unwashed hoodie will run 3–5% smaller after the first wash.
3. decide how much room you want. oversized doesn’t automatically mean huge. some people want the hoodie to fall past their hips. others just want a bit more room in the chest. both are right — there’s no correct oversized fit, only yours.
