a washed hoodie looks worn from day one. that’s not a defect, that’s the finish. at ATAVIST, the faded black look is part of the product: the hoodie is washed and treated after printing so it arrives as if you’ve owned it for years. but a washed finish keeps changing. here’s how to make sure it ages well instead of falling apart.
washing
- turn inside out, always
- cold or max 30°C / 85°F
- gentle cycle
- mild detergent, no bleach, no fabric softener
- don’t soak, don’t wring, don’t scrub
every wash fades the color a bit more. that’s intentional — the hoodie becomes more individual. if you want to keep the look as close to how it arrives, wash as rarely as possible and air it out instead.
drying
- hang dry, away from direct sunlight
- no tumble dryer (or low heat, short cycle only)
- no clips on the shoulders — they leave marks in heavy fabric
440 gsm cotton takes longer to dry than a regular hoodie. plan for 12–24 hours depending on humidity.
ironing and steaming
inside out, low heat, no steam directly on the print. better: use a garment steamer. it smooths the fabric without stressing the print.
stains
spot-treat with a damp cloth and mild soap. don’t use chlorine or stain remover — it pulls color from the washed finish and leaves light patches.
storage
folded, not on a hanger. a heavy hoodie stretches at the shoulders if hung for too long. in a drawer or on a shelf — not in plastic, so the fabric can breathe.
